COMMUNE DE PARIS - LELIEVRE & TANCHON: Jacques Mathurin Lelièvre (1753-1794) French Engraver, and Ponce Tanchon (1762-1794) Police administrator of the Commune of Paris. L.S., `Lelievre´, and `Tanchon´, one page, 4to, [Paris], 22nd July 1794, in French. The partially printed document bears the letterhead of ''Commune de Paris'', and is the appointment of `Citizen Pierre François Robert has been appointed Sergeant rifleman in the Chevalier de l´Arc division..´. Signed by Lelievre & Tanchon in their capacity as members of the Parisian sections of Lombard and Cité respectively. With remnants of a red wax seal to the front and pinholes not affecting the signatures. Small repair to the verso. Small overall age wear, folded. G £150-200 Six days after the present letter was signed, Robespierre was executed. The two signatories, Lelievre & Tanchon, as supporters of Robespierre after his downfall, were also executed one day later by guillotine. The ''Chevalerie de l'Arc'' was an initiation archery division. This organisation was later included in the ''Garde Nationale''.
