Description
Second half 19th century, 226 x 165 cm, South West Caucasus
This white-ground Kazak shows a field design of fifteen large Memling güls arranged in three rows of five motifs each. Their hooked outlines combine with the undecorated sections of the ground to produce a second design layer of hooked polygons linked by poles. The golden yellow border contains double hooks drawn in the style of kilims. – Slight signs of age and wear, somewhat low spots in the pile; the flatwoven finish has been restored at the top left, the sides are partially repaired.
BAUSBACK, PETER, Antike Teppiche. Sammlung Franz Bausback 1987/88. Mannheim 1987, pl. p. 38
