Mid 19th century, 234 x 174 cm, South West Caucasus
A huge, green-ground shield medallion with a wide white outline takes up the whole of the field, and palmettes of zoomorphous appearance are lined up in the white border. A very similar Sevan Kazak from the Milde Collection was exhibited at the Finch College Museum of Art, New York, in 1971/1972 and illustrated in the accompanying publication, \"Kazak\"". Our Sevan was purchased by the collector at Galerie Ostler, Munich. – Signs of age and wear, low spots in the pile, repaired areas, corroded brown. The original selvedges are partially restored, both ends slightly damaged and reduced.
