Description
The akinakes was made famous by the nomadic Scythians, adopted by the Persians and ultimately, the Greeks. An above-average example for quality and condition, handwrought of iron with guard of block type and ram’s horn-type pommel, the straight, double-edged blade with pronounced central ridge terminating in an acute tip. 5th-3rd century b.c.e. Excavated. Overall length 26.2cm. Alexander the Great defeated the Scythians (or Saccae) at the Battle of Jaxartes in 329 b.c.e. Condition V
