Die harmonisch gestalteten und auf das Wesentliche reduzierten Masken der Lega gehören zu den Initiationsobjekten der bwame-Gesellschaft.

Material, Grösse und Form der Maske zeigen den Rang des Trägers innerhalb der Gesellschaft an. Nicht alle Masken wurden - wie andernorts üblich - vor dem Gesicht getragen. Einige wurden auch nur in der Hand gehalten, an Hütten befestigt und gelegentlich auf einem Holzgestell kollektiv zur Schau gestellt.
