Description
Pre-Columbian Muisca (Muysca) culture (Colombia, 1200-1500 CE). Pottery pedestal bowl with red/brown pigment on tan ground, banded interior. Two stylized frogs applied to opposite sides near the rim, and futher red pigment designs to the exterior. Smaller example very similar. Pre-Columbians often associated frogs with rain. Measures 3.75 x 6.25 inches, smaller example measures 3 x 5.75 inches.
Condition
Average condition. Larger bowl shows a crack through one of the frogs and down the side, normal fading to pigments. Smaller example with no chips, cracks or repairs.
