Porcacchi's well-known map of Cuba (with Jamaica, the Caymans, and part of Hispaniola), originally published in 1572 in his The World's Most Famous Islands, appeared in many editions through the early 18th century. This beautifully preserved exemplar is from Lasor a Varea's Universus Terrarum Orbis, published in Padua in 1713. A delightful cartouche, a compass rose and fanciful marine creatures add to this map's enduring appeal.
