Description
"E 'DELLA GRANDEZZA DELL' ORIGINALE." Engraved by Filippo Morghen after drawing by Niccolo Vanni from "Raccolta di Pitture d'Ercolano", a collection of prints which was published between the years 1752 - 1762. (p. 39) Another engraved by Francesco Cepparoli after drawing by Niccolo Vanni from "Raccolta di Pitture d'Ercolano", a collection of prints which was published between the years 1752 - 1762. (p. 19) Two Neoclassical engravings from a very attractive series, created by the Accademia Ercolanese di Archeologia (also referred to as Reale Accademia Ercolanese) founded December 13, 1755 at the behest of King Charles (later Charles III of Spain). Under the Presidency of the Marquis Bernardo Tanucci, the Academy - composed of 15 ordinary members - published the results of their research on the objects found in the excavations of the cities of Pompeii and Herculaneum. The drawings were rendered from excavated sculptures. Size: plates measure 14" L x 10" W (35.6 cm x 25.4 cm); sheets measure 19.25" L x 14" W (48.9 cm x 35.6 cm)

Condition
Both engravings show strong plate marks. Expected foxing and stains as shown. Minor tears and creases to the edges that do not interfere with the engraved images.
