Leo VI. TACTICA: SIVE DE RE MILITARI. Leiden: J. Baldinius for L. Elzevier, 1612. 4to (8" x 6".) [8], 447, [3], 7, [1] pp. (some irregular page numbering, but complete.) Text in Greek and Latin in parallel columns. Early speckled calf with gilt over compartments, title to label in gilt, front hinge cracked, slight loss to head/tail and corners. Early ink to title, some light occasional foxing and toning, quite clean overall, a Very Good example. Bookplate of J.J.W.R Van Dyck to pastedown. ******************************* An important Byzantine military resource, written by Leo VI, ca. 900. A very scarce book, with RBH recording only one previous auction appearance in the United States (and that of an incomplete copy.)
