Elenore Plaisted Abbott [1875-1935] was born in Lincoln, Maine. She studied in Pennsylvia and Paris before entering Drexel Institute in 1899. She was influenced significantly by Howard Pyle, her instructor at the Drexel Institute. Her illustrations appeared in many magazines of the time, such as "Saturday Evening Post", "Harper's Magazine", and "Scribner's". She also illustrated books including Stevenson's "Kidnapped" and "Treasure Island"; Johann David Wyss's "Swiss Family Robinson", Louisa May Alcott's "Old Fashioned Girl", and the "Grimm's Fairy Tales" and Defoe's "Robinson Crusoe". She married fellow painter Yarnell Abbott.
