Description
Central Europe, late Bronze Age, ca. 1250 to 850 BCE. One of the most outstanding bronze fibulas we have ever seen, this sizable and elegant fibula brooch formed from intricately wound and arranged bronze wires presents a mesmerizing design. A very large spiral with a dozen rotations comprises the lower end of the pendant. Above it are eight spirals extending from a central column of wires joined together via three horizontally laid fasteners - one of the wires extends above to form a sideways figure 8 with a tightly coiled terminal. A long slender pin with a matching tightly wound coil terminal to attach the fibula still remains. Covered in beautiful layers of blue-green patina, this is a stupendous example - indeed of museum quality - from ancient Greece! Size: 9.5" H (24.1 cm); 10.75" H (27.3 cm) on included custom stand.; pin measures 9.125" L (23.2 cm)
