Description
Roman, Imperial Period, ca. 1st century CE. Rare and very desirable skyphos with green lead-based glaze. Mold-made with scene on each side of running youths, possibly erotes, with four lion heads spaced among. This type of glazed pottery was produced for a very short period and came in yellow and green varieties and is among the rarest of all types of Roman wares. Size: 5.125" W x 2.5" H (13 cm x 6.4 cm)
Provenance: private East Coast, USA collection; ex-Richard Wagner collection, Cape Cod, Massachusetts, USA, acquired in the 1960s
