Description

Wonderful terracotta pottery Pre Columbian full intense colored Jalisco, "sheepface" seated woman. From the Jalisco shaft tomb culture of Western Mexico. One of the ancient cultures digging complex shaft tombs for burials, often with many ceremonial urns. This lady has nice rich color often lacking in these cultures seen on EBay. Decorated top, white skirt, one leg folded and one hand holding a bowl. She has other hand over her head. Large breasts featured with necklace or embroidered top and decorated ears, and with a painted nose ring. Round eyes with pupils. Small abrasion over one eye, barely noticeable. Attractive woman for the home collector who shows really nicely. This is a classic "sheepface" Jalisco figure with a log pointed nose. The artistry is evident here. Wearing a striped pattern on a head band. Ear spool embellished. It does have nice mineral deposits on the back. One of the best in regard to residual paint. Nearly 9 inches tall. Purchased from Artemis Gallery, but also was held by Arte Primativo collection. A great provenance. Comes with a COA?
