Pinchon, illustrated map of France c. 1951, Joseph Porphyre Pinchon (French, 1871-1953), partially completed map of France, c. 1951, watercolor and oil on paper mounted on linen, unframed, whimsical illustration commissioned by Huguette Clark, features the industries, crafts, and people of each city or region, with Pinchon's famous character Beccasine appearing on the left side in Brest. 50"w x 51"h.

Notes/Literature: Huguette Marcelle Clark (1906-2011) was an heiress and philanthropist, who became well known again late in life as a recluse, living in a hospital for more than 20 years while her mansions remained empty. She was an accomplished artist and musician, having studied under famous portrait painter Tadeusz Styka, and her paintings were exhibited at the Corcoran Gallery, Washington in 1925 Pinchon was a famous French children's book illustrator and artist, best known for the adventures of Becassine, considered to be the first female comic heroine
