William Trost Richards (American 1833-1905) Westport Point Connecticut oil on board 10 x 20"Titled Westport Point on the reverse. Painted around 1888, the year it was likely exhibited at Doll & Richards Boston gallery, possibly #27 in the exhibition titled "Westport River"it is noteworthy for its tonal range, size, and labels. A native of Philadelphia, Richards developed his career through major national and international exhibitions, receiving medals at the 1876 Philadelphia Centennial Exposition and the 1889 Paris Exposition. Shortly before his death in 1905, he was awarded the Gold Medal from the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts.
