Syria, Seleucid Kingdom, Alexander I Balas, 150 BCE to 145 BCE, dated 148 BCE to 147 BCE. OBVERSE: Diademed head of Alexander I Balas facing right. REVERSE: Zeus Nikephoros seated left, Greek inscription all around. Compare HGC 9, 875a. Size: 16.72 grams, 31 mm.

Alexander I or Balas was ruler of the Greek Seleucid Kingdom in 150 BCE to 146 BCE. Balas became king after he defeated his brother Demetrius Soter in 150 BCE. He had a short reign as king after he lost the crown to his brother during his defeat at the battle of Antioch 145 BCE in Syria, and died shortly thereafter.
