Greece, Hellenistic period, ca. 3rd century CE. A pretty kothon on a raised disc foot with a horizontal strap handle. The rim is wide and inset and the body is overall glazed a deep, earthy red. The kothon is a rarer vessel form from ancient Greece, and its use is not entirely known - it was probably a vessel for holding perfumed oil. Size: 5.35" L x 4.05" W x 2.3" H (13.6 cm x 10.3 cm x 5.8 cm)
