Description
A Roman ceramic lamp depicting the bust of a priest, late 2nd - early 3rd Century AD, within the central discus, seen in profile, capite velato, ritual objects in the field, the shoulders decorated with a vine motif, low ring base on bottom. L: 4 7/8 in (11.8cm), W: 3 Â1/2 in (8.9cm). Cf. Bussiere, La Collection Rivel, (BAR, 2012), pp. 194-5, nos. 217-8 for the type; Ex Royal Athena Galleries, New York purchased on the Munich Art Market in June, 2007.
