Description
A choice Roman opaque white glass mold-blown cosmetic vessel, Eastern Mediterranean, 1st Century AD, from a three-part mold, the ovoid body decorated with footed amphorae, hydriae and olpiae, each separated by columns; grape vine encircling vessel below arcade; ring base and rim folded in. Beautifully preserved and a lovely example of this classic Roman glass vessel type! H: 3 1/5 in (8.1cm). Cf. Yale, p. 47, no. 122 for an identical type in grayish-green glass; CF. Constable Maxwell collection, pp. 52-3, no. 70 for identical type. Ex collection of influential art critic Clement Greenberg, New York.
