An autumn woodland scene showing large trees with bright orange and yellow leaves on the branches and ground. The leaves are painted in a slight impasto fashion and small branches are in delicate thin dark lines. A small stream flows through the landscape. The subtle forest foreground is dark mossy greens. Although born in the UK, Wood worked most of his career in America. This scene represents an American impressionist style. Matted in suede cloth in a heavy gold-leafed frame. Robert William Wood (b. 1889 - 1979). Signed on the lower left.
