Africa, Nigeria, Ibibio (Anang), ca. early to mid 20th century CE. An Ibibio polychrome carved wood face mask, in hues of yellow, blue, red, and black, surmounted by a seated female with articulated arms and wearing a blue dress similar to a puppet. The mask features large white-hued almond-shaped eyes, long incised eyebrows, a prominent nose, and full lips, with hanging locks of azure-hued hair. One articulated arm of the figure and mask are held together by a carved and unpainted piece of wood. A wonderful example! Size: 4.5" L x 11.25" W x 20" H (11.4 cm x 28.6 cm x 50.8 cm).

One articulated arm loose, one hand reattached. Expected wear and loss to pigment, and minor losses to noses and mouths of both mask and figure.
