Description
Origin: Germany, early 20th century
Length 85,5 cm. blade 71,4 cm x 2,2 cm.
Blade: slightly curved single edged blade with one wide fuller and the false edge. The blade is covered with chrome and highly decorated with war trophies, floral motifs, anchor, sailboat, coat of arms of Imperial Germany (eagle).
Hilt: brass guard, connected to lion’s head pommel, which is formed from one piece with the back. Two folding side plates – one big and one small. The bigger one is decorated with embossed anchor under the crown, surrounded with floral motifs. The smaller one is decorated with embossed floral motifs, back side bears engraving “Kastenbauer†– the surname of the owner of the sword. Bone grip with horizontal grooves, wrapped with twisted brass wire.
Scabbard: leather scabbard with brass fittings and two suspension rings. The chape, mouths and the upper fitting are decorated with geometric ornaments.
Condition report: the blade in very good condition, traces of corrosion only on the tip. Brass parts of the hilt with natural patina, denser in indentations, with some scratches and dents. Bone grip with yellowish patina, some cracks, scratches. Leather of the scabbard with certain amount of wear, some scratches and cracks. Brass fittings of the scabbard with natural patina, denser in indentations, with some scratches and dents.
