Description
Phryne or Phryne was a courtesan, or hetaira, who lived in Athens in the 4th century BC. This highly detailed neoclassical figure of woman on shaped stepped plinth, is in fine condition. Pradiers model of Phryne was originally made from Parian marble, an entirely appropriate medium in view of the very Grecian subject of the work. The figure stood to a height of almost two meters, with her jewels and drapery highlighted in polychrome and gold, she made a dazzling impressionto eye of beholder. Bronze Dimensions with Marble Base: Height 14 X Width 6 inches. Weight: 9 LBS.
