This is a genuine 40" x 60" U.S. card stock original movie poster issued by Paramount Studios / LucasFilm Ltd, for the EPIC FILM - INDIANA JONES RAIDERS OF THE LOST ARK when the film was released in 1981 and meant for theatrical display. This poster is rolled, never folded!! Extremely Rare - these large format posters were primarily offered for major motion pictures only, and were displayed inside and outside of theaters. This one was posted INSIDE - and there is NO SUN DAMAGE. For most titles only a few hundred of these larger size posters were usually printed, and they was only printed once. Unlike the one sheet which was printed in quantities of 10,000 and up. These are very difficult to find in any displayable condition because the card stock can crease easily and most theaters threw them away or returned then (folded) after the movie run was complete. This is NOT a reprint or reproduction poster! It is a vintage original poster issued by the studio when the film was released and meant for theatrical display. This poster features fantastic art by Richard AMSEL, who is now featured in the permanent collection at the Smithsonian Institution, and his markings are noted in the plate. This is known as the “A†Style poster as it is the FIRST INDIANA JONES film, and it remains the artist’s most famous work to date. Amsel died only a short 4 years later. In January 2016, a feature film documentary on Amsel's life and career was announced, tentatively titled "Amsel: Illustrator of the Lost Artâ€. (playing of the LOST ARK theme). Poster also has the National Screen Service markings as appropriate for this poster. Amsel did two separate posters, one for the film’s initial 1981 (THIS ORIGINAL) release and another for its re-release a year later; George Lucas and Steven Spielberg reportedly own the originals, respectively. With only slight edge-wear, and minimal markings and creasing, this is one of the best INDIANA JONES posters we have ever had the opportunity to present at auction.
