This is a genuine 40" x 60" U.S. card stock original movie poster issued by Universal Pictures / Steven Spielberg, for the EPIC FILM - E.T. - The Extra-Terrestrial when the film was released in 1982 and meant for theatrical display. This poster is rolled, never folded!! Extremely Rare - these large format posters were primarily offered for major motion pictures only, and were displayed inside and outside of theaters. This one was posted INSIDE - and there is NO SUN DAMAGE. For most titles only a few hundred of these larger size posters were usually printed, and they was only printed once. Unlike the one sheet which was printed in quantities of 10,000 and up. These are very difficult to find in any displayable condition because the card stock can crease easily and most theaters threw them away or returned then (folded) after the movie run was complete. This is NOT a reprint or reproduction poster! It is a vintage original poster issued by the studio when the film was released and meant for theatrical display. This poster features fantastic art by John Henry Alvin, who was an American cinematic artist and painter who illustrated many movie posters. Alvin created posters and key art for more than 135 films, beginning with the poster for Mel Brooks' Blazing Saddles (1974). His style of art became known as Alvinesque by friends and colleagues in the entertainment industry. Alvin's work included this movie posters for E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial, Blade Runner, Gremlins, The Goonies, The Color Purple, The Little Mermaid, Batman Returns, Beauty and the Beast, Aladdin and The Lion King. His iconic posters was his masterpiece work for Steven Spielberg. The E.T. poster showed E.T.'s finger touching the finger of his human friend, Elliott, finger tip to finger tip. The fingers create a glow where they touch. The idea for the poster was reportedly suggested by Spielberg, and was inspired by Michelangelo's painting, The Creation of Adam. Alvin used his daughter as the human hand model for the poster. The Original Promotional Movie Poster Painting for E.T. The Extra-Terrestrial sold for $394,000 auction. This iconic painting was used not only this initial release poster, but has been used to promote the film for nearly 35+ years on posters, DVD and VHS box covers, lobby cards, T-shirts, and many more collectibles!
