Description

Extra large 19th Century Italian example from the Grand Tour Era. Augustus was a Roman statesman and military leader who was the first Emperor of the Roman Empire, controlling Imperial Rome from 27 B.C. until his death in A.D. 14. This profile with classic laurel wreath crown is masterfully carved. From an Old Boston, Massachusetts Family Collection. Measures 3 1/4" tall x 2 3/8" wide x 3/4" thick. Weighs 69.7 grams. Very rare and quite large Intaglio image of Augustus.
