Central Asia, Indus Valley, Meghargh period, ca. 3500 to 2800 BCE. A hand-built standing female pottery figure presenting an offering in her hands, depicted in fine detail with deep-set round eyes, a beak-like nose making for an almost bird-like visage, and a veiled headdress falling over her shoulders with circular termini. This Bronze Age piece dates to the Meghargh periods IV - VI; scholars now believed that the pottery of Meghargh supersedes that of Mesopotamia in being the earliest known polychrome ceramics produced by humans.
