Description
An English snuff or patch box, enamel on copper, Georgian, c 1770. Rococo style roses and scrollwork on a puce background, gilt metal hinge and rim. Patches, often in black silk, were used to conceal scars or blemishes from smallpox or other diseases. Diameter "2¾/ 6,8 cm, height "1½/ 3 cm. Condition: Extensive wear and around the edges repair, most of which has been removed.
