Description
KINTAI BRIDGE is considered one of Japan's most beautiful bridges, with five linked arches forming a graceful span across the Nishiki River. Because of its unique shape, it is also known as the Abacus Bridge. Although originally constructed in 1673, it was washed away by a flood in 1950 and then reconstructed in 1953 as an exact duplicate. It's considered an engineering marvel, since only clamps and wires (no nails) were used in its construction. Cormorant fishing takes place on the Nishiki River in summer.
