North African Hardwood Settee

late 19th century, the shaped concave crest with scrolling patterns and above a pierced frieze joined by pierced arms to the seat, fitted with kilim cushions, raised on a shaped apron on tapering circular legs, the whole with traditional bone- and mother-of-pearl-inlaid accents and patterns, and pierced ball and spindle panels.

**In overall good condition. The piece exhibits some scattered losses, minor repairs, rubbing and wear consistent with age and use. Rubbing and abrasions to ebonizing.

The legs are sturdy and the couch appears to be stable and usable.

There is a repaired break to one of the projecting uprights in the center of the back. There are some attendant inlay losses along that break. Relatively few scattered inlay losses throughout, most notably about a 3/4" dia. loss to the mother-of-pearl on the horizontal band above the fretwork on the back, two missing hexagonal mother-of-pearl inlays on top of one arm, and about a 3" loss along one seat apron.

The fretwork is intact, the only loss noted is one spindle beneath an arm.

Moderate wear to the upholstery. There are some loose threads at the seams of a front corner of the seat cushion.
