First edition, first printing. Publisher's copper wrappers, with an illustration of Lears' Jumblies to the panels, lettered in red and black. About fine, with a hint of light wear to the spine head, else fine. A lovely copy. Gorey x 3 is a compilation of three stories illustrated by Gorey: Lear's "The Jumblies," Lear's "The Dong with a Luminous Nose," and Neumeyer's "Donald and the ...." The first two stories concern Lear's "The Jumblies," one of Gorey's favorite childhood poems, the characters from which are featured in the companion tale "The Dong with a Luminous Nose." While Gorey illustrated the first two works in homage to Lear, one of his inspirations, "Donald and the...." was a collaborative work between Neumeyer and Gorey. The two exchanged an elaborate series of correspondence relating to this book, the first of multiple collaborations between the two Harvard men.
