Description
**First Time At Auction**
Pre-Columbian, North Coast Peru, Inca, early Colonial Period, ca. 1540 to 1575 CE. A fine mold-formed blackware vessel with a planar base, a slender cylindrical body, a slightly narrowed neck, and a conical spout with a thin rim. The figure depicted on the vessel is that of a male wearing Spanish-style garb, shown in a walking position, holding a large sack over his left shoulder with both hands. The character's visage is composed of recessed almond-shaped eyes, a petite nose, puffy lips, and a broad forehead, all beneath the spout which doubles as a simple cap. Highly-burnished and covered in black slip, this is an intriguing example from post-conquest Peru! Size: 2.25" W x 5.625" H (5.7 cm x 14.3 cm).
