Vincent van Gogh (Dutch, 1853-1890)Attributed/in the manner of: Self Portrait, oil on paper board, signature verso, framed.  Vincent van Gogh is known to have created many self portraits, often due to the unavailability of models. He painted himself in the clothing of gentleman, an artist, a farmer and also in the straw hat he wore during his forays of painting in the countryside. This example is likely one of the latter, created on an inexpensive piece of carton board, which he sometimes used to save the expense of canvas. He was a Post-Impressionist painter who is among the most famous and influential figures in the history of Western art. In just over a decade he created about 2,100 artworks, including around 860 oil paintings, most of them in the last two years of his life. They include landscapes, still lifes.

Fair condition: surface area in good condition, paper board has concave buckling, small areas of loss along edge, brittle, stains, foxing.
