Description
Richard Sheehan (American 1953-2006): Clayton Street Wall (Dorchester MA) oil on canvas signed dated (89) and titled along the bottom edge. The canvas has been stretched on a temporary support for exhibition. It may be shipped unframed if desired.
Richard Sheehan received his BFA from Massachusetts College of Art and his MFA from Yale. Sheehan’s paintings have been described as possessing a 'painterly realism'and are often compared to the works of Bay Area artists such as Richard Diebenkorn James Weeks and Wayne Thiebaud. Sheehan painted en plein air focused on capturing the specific temporal and geographic impressions of that place. His paintings are usually inscribed with the place his depicting. They represent abstracted segments of urban sprawl; bridges tunnels overpasses and other industrialized locations. Although they are landscapes Sheehan didn't created panoramic vistas. Instead he cropped the image creating tight and dynamic compositions. The paintings are highly architectural in form isolated and specific to the American landscape.
