The film stars Richard Dreyfuss, Melinda Dillon, Teri Garr, Bob Balaban, Cary Guffey, and Francois Truffaut, and tells the story of Roy Neary, an everyday blue-collar worker in Indiana, whose life changes after an encounter with an unidentified flying object. The suit can be seen in the end sequence of the film, when Neary was selected to join the so called Mayflower project and was chosen by the aliens to step aboard the Mother ship and leave planet Earth forever. This screen worn red hero jumpsuit was manufactured by Bowler's Shirt & Uniform CO. Inc. Los Angeles, and comes with the original "Mayflower" project and United States flag patches on both shoulders. The suit also has an interior label with the initials "R.D.1" (Richard Dreyfuss 1) and the size (size 40). The suit was obtained from the Columbia Pictures archive, and remains in excellent screen used condition. It will be accompanied by a certificate of authenticity.
