Description
Classical World, Etruria (Italy), ca. 5th century BCE. A mold-made pottery head of a woman, depicted wearing a rounded, smooth-fronted diadem that rests atop her slightly curly hair. Her face has full lips, a thin nose, almond-shaped eyes, and a mouth similar to the Greek "Archaic Smile," which has been taken by art historians to mean that the subject is intended to appear alive and peaceful. This votive figure may have been left at a tomb or temple as an offering. Size: 2.75" W x 3.7" H (7 cm x 9.4 cm); 7" H (17.8 cm) on included custom stand.
