Description
Late 19th-early 20th century AD. A tooled leather cylindrical quiver and cap with woven leather ornament and tassels from top and base, fitted with leather shoulder strap; internally with thirteen bamboo shafted arrows, each with wrought iron barbed and tanged points (two triangular barbed, one side-barbed bodkin and the rest leaf-shaped with curved barbs) leather whipped to shafts, the nocks wrapped in thin leather or whipped. 800 grams total,quiver 91cm including base tassels, arrows 63cm (35 1/2 and 25"). Stuart Baldwin collection, Essex, UK; by inheritance. The arrows with a black binding would have originally had the metal arrow head coated in poison - most likely containing Strophanthus which would have acted on the heart of the hunted animal. [No Reserve]
