Description
**Originally Listed At $300**
Western Central Asia, Indo-Persian culture, ca. 19th century CE. A large repousse silver belt buckle, in two pieces, with round bosses containing relief birds in the center of each. The birds are surrounded by floral motifs and the outside edges of the belt have projecting, thin motifs, that are also floral. One side has a heavy hook that fits onto the back of the other; the hooking mechanism is covered by a projecting gilded silver and bronze boss. The hollow backs of each side have bronze strips used for attaching the buckle to leather or some other backing. Avian imagery was incredibly common on Indo-Persian art, and these whimsical birds are no exception! This item could still function as a belt buckle and would be an incredible fashion statement for whoever wore it! Size: 8.25" W x 3.15" H (21 cm x 8 cm)
Provenance: private Millburn, New Jersey, USA collection
All items legal to buy/sell under U.S. Statute covering cultural patrimony Code 2600, CHAPTER 14, and are guaranteed to be as described or your money back.
