Description
**Originally Listed At $5000**
Ancient Central Asia, Pakistan, India, and Afghanistan, Gandharan, ca. 200 to 300 CE. A remarkable grey schist sculpture depicting a Bodhisattva standing with a robe in high relief and bangles on each wrist. The realistically modeled figure holds his hands in Anjali Mudra, the gesture of composure and respect in both greetings and goodbyes, in a centering manner which imparts a symmetrical presentation to the otherwise asymmetrical statue. The lower fringe along the robe is ruffled in a naturalistic manner above his feet, and a raised necklace with thick beading is draped across his chest and clavicle. A sensuous example of fine Greco-Buddhist lapidary technique! Size: 7.8" W x 27.5" H (19.8 cm x 69.8 cm)
