Ancient Near East, modern day northern Iran, Luristan, ca. 1000 to 600 BCE. A thin-bladed bronze dagger, created by master artisans using the lost wax casting technique. The blade tapers rapidly from a crescent-shaped upper portion with a thick tang to a very elongated triangle form. This form is known as a Marlik Type III. Marlik is a mound that contained fifty-three rich tombs within which archaeologists found a large number of bronze weapons. These were placed into graves to provision the dead in the afterlife and remind those watching their internment of their wealth in life. Size: 2.55" W x 12.25" H (6.5 cm x 31.1 cm)

Condition
Blade is separate from handle. Very dark green patina on surface. Excellent remaining form, with tiny chips from edge of blade.
