Description
First Edition, First Printing, illustrated by Barry Moser

"East of the Sun & West of the Moon", A Play by Nancy Willard, illustrated by Barry Moser, published by Harcourt Brace Jovanovich, San Diego, New York & London in 1989. Point of first printing: "FIRST EDITION" and "A" are present on the copyright page.

"East of the Sun and West of the Moon, the Troll Queen and her hideous daughter, Longnose, are preparing a wedding feast. The cake will be a Troll specialty -- gold nuggets baked in sea slime, frosted with diamonds and broccoli. The groom-to-be is a Prince. But why has he left Karen, the girl he loves, to marry a Troll with a nose three feet long and a personality so dreadful that poison ivy falls from her hair?

Nancy Willard and Barry Moser add their unique magic to the classic Norwegian story about a brave girl who's journeys "over sand and sea, towers and turtles, moonbeams and millstones" to rescue the Prince that should have been hers.
Nancy Willard studied folk art and fairy tales in Norway. In 1982 she was awarded the John Newbery Medal for her HBJ book "A Visit to William Blake's Inn". Some of her books for HBJ are "The Mountains of Quilt" (1987), "The Voyage of the Ludgate Hill" (1987), and "Night Story" (1986). She lives in Poughkeepsie, New York...

Barry Moser's work has appeared in more than one hundred books for adults, and in 1982 he won the American Book Award for design and illustration. His first two books for young readers, "Jump!" (HBJ, 1986) and "Jump Again!" (HBJ, 1987), were widely acclaimed, and "Jump Again!" was a New York Times Best illustrated Book and a Redbook Best illustrated Picture Book.
His most recent children's book is "In the Beginning: Creation Stories from Around the World" by Virginia Hamilton (HBJ, 1988) He lives in western Massachusetts. "-- from the dust jacket

"Barry Moser, considered one of today's greatest designers and illustrators, has won many major awards for his illustrated books and letterpress editions of literary classics, many of which can be seen at New York's Metropolitan Museum of Art and the National Gallery of Art in Washington, D.C."
