Vintage box purse by milliner Enid Collins of Medina, Texas who began producing fanciful handbags in 1959. These vintage purses are easily identifiable in today’s market because of her hallmark use of a large mirror on the inside of the box purse, her use of hand painted and written messages on the outside and inside of each box purse as well as each purse was signed by using the letters “EC” or “c” on the side of each purse. She also incorporated a printed statement on the inside of each purse next to the mirror, “The Original Box Bag by Collins of Texas, hand-decorated for you!” This particular designed box purse was produced in the fall of 1970 after the Tandy Corporation took over the company with the running horse as the indicator of its time period of production and magazine advertisements that display this design. This unique vintage box purse displays a message on the outside face of the box that states “ U R the Apple of My I” or more clearly “You are the apple of my eye” .These persons were never meant for evening wear but instead a fanciful accessory for the ladies to carry as an everyday purse that would withstand the rigors of use since the purse was outfitted with a durable brass hinge, leather trim and nearly indestructible handles. This vintage box purse is in excellent condition with no splits, cracks or chips. It is in used condition so there will be some minor wear marks or scratches which have not been repaired. The very personalized box purse measures 11 ?” long, 5 ¾” wide and 2 ¾” deep.
