Pair of Chinese Qing Dynasty DouCai porcelain bowl. Deep curvature flaring upward to form the rim, with a slightly raised footing. The rim has a double blue ring around the inner and outer edge. The exterior is adorned with hand-painted bamboo forest. DouCai means colors which fit together and can be seen by the harmoniously painted light color covering the bowls outer surface. The artistry is a combination of underglaze cobalt blue outlines and enamels added on top of the fired glaze, within the outlines. This glazing technique was invented during the Ming, Xuande period but are mostly related to the Ming, Chenghua rule from (1465-87). The blue elements of the design were painted under the glaze. The clay is very fine, with a brilliant glaze finish that was applied by a meticulous. Qianlong six characters reign mark in underglaze blue, Qing Dynasty.
