Description
This is an old and field used carved wooden mask from the Luba ( or possibly Songye) peoples, DRC /Congo, Africa. This mask originates from the central heart of Tribal Africa. Their western neighbours of the Luba are the Songye, from whom they have borrowed some stylistic features of their art relating to the Kifwebe society. This mask features the broad central crest from the nose and along the forehead and the accentuated mouth and wide slit coffee bean shaped eyes, and the entire masks features a dizzying incised geometric linear design.The mask measures 15.5 x 9.5 inches
