Description
Two James River Valley of Virginia Stoneware Jars, mid 19th century, a tree-gallon ovoid jar with cobalt wavy line decoration around shoulder, attributed to Stephen B. Sweeney, Henrico County, VA; paired with a two-gallon cylindrical jar with cobalt swag decoration, attributed to David Parr, Jr., Richmond, VA. Sweeney jar is out-of-round with rim chips, an in-the-firing contact mark to end of each handle, small base chips, and a glazed-over base flake. Parr jar with in-the-firing bloated spots throughout, rim chips, a long Y-shaped crack from rim, and a hairline at base and on underside.
