Description
Fine Pair of Slip-Decorated Redware Spaniels, PA origin, third quarter 19th century, molded in the form of opposing, seated Cavalier King Charles spaniels, each decorated with heavy manganese and yellow-slip spots and highlights, applied under a clear lead glaze. Excellent form and decoration, surviving as an original pair. One spaniel by the same hand is illustrated on the poster, "Birds & Beasts", published in 1993 by Richard Flanders Smith, which highlights several important Pennsylvania redware animal figures. One spaniel in excellent condition with minor wear to nose and one ear. Other spaniel with two restored base chips and minor wear to ears. H (of each) 7".
