Item Details
Description
Europe, Germany, ca. 18th century CE. A dark wood corbel carved in the form of a merchant holding a vessel with a round lid. The figure is delightfully carved to have his proportions fit within the bounds of the roughly square corbel, so that he is shown crouched, with one knee raised and one hand resting upon it. Old iron nails embedded in the top of the piece attest to its age. Size: 7.85" W x 8.75" H (19.9 cm x 22.2 cm)
