Item Details
Description
Ancient Near East, Anatolian/Cycladic, ca. late 4th to early 3rd millennium BCE. A fascinating example of a Cycladic bronze idol in a form known as "violin" for obvious reasons. A discoid body with a slightly raised "arm" on its face, a thin neck, and a rounded head devoid of any facial features with a large punched-out hole all suggest an anthropomorphic form with a single, all-seeing eye. The meaning and function of Cycladic idols remains an enigma without any written records from this era. Most are made from marble or terracotta, so this bronze example is one of extreme rarity! Custom museum-quality display stand included. Size: 2.25" W x 4.25" H (5.7 cm x 10.8 cm); 5" H (12.7 cm) on included custom stand.

Provenance: private East Coast, USA collection
