Description
An attractive Late Hellenistic - early Roman ceramic lamp, Egypt, c. 1st Century BC, of the type Petrie V 'Dolphin Lamps', the circular body with concave rim around the fill-hole, pierced side lug, long nozzle with vertical grooves with splayed mouth and a raised tear-drop shaped base on bottom. L: 4 in (10.2 cm). Well-preserved red-orange slip with light deposits. A great example! Cf. Bussiere/Rivel, La Collection Rivel (BAR 2012), p. 98, no. 76 for the type; Ex New York private collection.
