Arthur Boris Klein (also Boris O'Klein) (French, Russian born, 1893-1985),"Pour Pardon" (Oh! I beg your pardon), ca. 1930s. An original watercolor, signed by the artist in black on the lower right, depicting a very energetic bulldog peering over a brick wall, his excited expression with wide open eyes and mouth, as if panting heavily, with paws grasping the edge of the wall as if he is about to pull himself over it! What a spunky bulldog! The title of the watercolor, "Oh! I beg your pardon!" is handwritten in pencil at the lower left. Boris O’Klein immigrated to France from Russia with his family when he was a young boy. He settled in Paris after World War I and became a prolific artist, known for his watercolors and etchings of dogs getting into mischief. His images are typically very lively and humorous. They have been referred to as the Naughty or Dirty Dogs of Paris. Size: 14.5" W x 10.625" H (36.8 cm x 27 cm)
